Belmont, NY — For Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service, the Allegany County Democratic Committee (ACDC) organized a collection drive for the Alfred Area Food Pantry, housed at the Alfred United Methodist Church in Alfred Station.

The Alfred Area Food Pantry serves residents of the Alfred, NY area (including Steuben and Allegany Counties). The pantry offers, bread, chicken, eggs, milk, canned fruits and vegetables, pasta/rice/grains, proteins (including peanut butter), breakfast items, snacks and assorted toiletries.  Residents are eligible to secure food from the pantry once per month. Pantry hours are Tuesday & Thursday 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM.  The address is 1389 Moland Hill Rd, Alfred Station, NY.

Mark Holt, ACDC Vice Chair, said, “Dr. King’s life exemplified what it means to serve.  Since we, as Democrats, also strive to serve our communities, we choose to honor his legacy with this project.  We reached out to our volunteer network – an amazingly generous group of givers and doers. Their generosity made this project possible.”

The call for donations was issued a few weeks ago. Today, ACDC volunteers delivered hundreds of items on the pantry’s wish list and multiple hundreds of dollars.  The results are evident in this photo.

Alfred Area Food Pantry board member Amie Acton said “We’re very excited about the donation, which far exceeded our expectations. The wide assortment of food, personal care, and household items we received will supply our pantry for many months.  We will use the monetary donations to buy other goods as needs arise.”

Heather Meacham, also a board member, remarked, “We are pleased with the very generous donations from the Allegany County Democratic Committee in celebration of Martin Luther King’s Day of Service.”

The Allegany County Democratic Committee is the official governing body for the County Party, working toward broader representation by Democrats at the local, state, and national levels.  Learn more at www.alleganycountydemocrats.org or on Facebook or Threads, email info@alleganycountydemocrats.org, or phone / text (585) 610-4321.
