NYS Police: Fatal hit and run on I-86 in Bath NY, UPDATED

Public assistance requested to find vehicle responsible

*UPDATE The pedestrian, John W. Viviano, age 40, of Sidney, NY, was pronounced deceased at the scene. 

State Police are requesting the public’s assistance in locating a 2019 or newer white Volvo semi-truck with damage to the front passenger side.

State Police in Troop E is investigating a fatal car-pedestrian crash that occurred on I-86 near exit 38 in the village of Bath, NY.  The preliminary investigation determined that a westbound vehicle on I-86 struck a pedestrian between the evening of November 17, 2023, to the early morning hours of November 18, 2023. The vehicle did not stop, and State Police is requesting the public’s assistance to identify the vehicle. The vehicle may have significant front-end damage.

I-86 westbound between exits 38 and 39 will be closed in the area for an extended period, and all are encouraged to seek alternate travel routes. 

No further details on the pedestrian will be released at this time.
