Village board unanimously votes to bring legal action

By Andrew Harris

Mayor Randy Shayler has confirmed that after executive session deliberations this evening, the Village of Wellsville will being the process of legally taking ownership of parts of the “Municipal Parking Lot,” using eminent domain powers.

The move comes after a recent public hearing on the subject which has drawn significant public interest and opinion.` Local business owners who rely on the parking lot for commerce are in general, unified in support of the village taking control of the lot. Many local voices, especially those online, have voiced opposition to the heavy hand of local government.

Mayor Shayler noted that after all the official public comments on the action were received, both in person at the public hearing, and via direct submission, that “a clear majority supported the use of eminent domain.”

The Wellsville Sun has reached out to the property owner for reaction to this decision by the Village of Wellsville.
