Mary Ann Hoffman, 79, Wellsville

Wellsville, NY – Mary Ann Hoffman, 79, of 103 Early Street passed away on Sunday, October 8, 2023, at Jones Memorial Hospital with her family at her side. She was born April 15, 1944, in Hornell, the daughter of the late Joseph J. and Rita M. (McPherson) Buono. On January 23, 1965, in Hornell she married her husband of 57 years, Harold Thomas Hoffman, who predeceased her earlier this year, on January 13.

Mary Ann was a graduate of St. Ann’s School and was a 1962 graduate of Hornell High School. She first entered the workforce for her family’s business, the Sunset Inn. She continued her career in food service for Wellsville Central Schools, working in the cafeterias for 17 years. Outside of work she was a hobbyist, enjoying sewing, ceramics, knitting, and crocheting.

She is survived by: two daughters, Bridget (Kevin) Lafler of Middlesex, NY, and Lisa (Chris) McNinch of Rushville, NY; four grandchildren, Cody (Anna) Lafler, Patrick (Katie) Lafler, Justin McNinch, and Katie (Corey) Ledgerwood; five great-grandchildren, Lainey, Bennett, Jack, Tristan, and Wesley; a brother, Peter (Barbara) Buono of Lutz, Florida; special niece, Rita (Gary) George of West Almond, NY; life-long friend Karen (Alan) Wightman of Nevada, Texas; brothers and sisters-in-law, Willaim Hoffman, Mary Ann Sullivan, and Stephen (Joanne) Hoffman; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by siblings, Ruth Cleveland, Catherine Buono, and Kenneth Buono; and brothers and sisters-in-law, JoAnn Hoffman, Carol Thompson, Margaret Thurston, and John Hoffman.

Friends are invited to call on Saturday, October 14, 2023, 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home, 34 W. State Street in Wellsville. The funeral will follow at 1:00 pm in the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in the Town of Fremont. Please consider memorial donations to the Wellsville Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
