On 10/08/2023 at 04:44am Olean City Fire Department was dispatched for a structure fire on the corner of Clinton Street at East State Street (correct address 304 E. State).  Upon arrival, fire crews found heavy fire throughout the first floor and a trapped occupant who had exited a 3rd story window and was on the 2nd story roof awaiting rescue.  Crews placed a ground ladder and assisted the resident down while other crews began stretching hose lines to extinguish the fire.  Extensive fire travel occurred in the void spaces of the home.  Multiple subsequent hose lines were placed in service and the fire was brought under control.  A total of six residents were transported to Olean General Hospital.  Two of the victims had significant burn injuries, while the other four were transported for minor injuries and smoke inhalation.  Two dogs perished in the fire.  Two firefighters were treated on scene with minor injuries.  The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.

The City of Olean was assisted on scene by Olean Police, Trans Am Ambulance, Deputy 4 coordinator, Weston Mills Fire, Allegany Fire, National Grid and National Fuel.  Love Thy Neighbor was on scene providing support for firefighters.  Hinsdale and the Town of Olean were on standby.

The City of Olean Fire Department would like to remind everyone to ensure they have working smoke detectors and always sleep with your bedroom door shut.
