Alfred State College: Events galore for Homecoming 2023

ALFRED, NY, October 5, 2023 – There are events galore planned as Alfred State celebrates Homecoming and Family Weekend 2023. Events begin on Thursday, Oct. 12, and run until Sunday, Oct. 15.

Homecoming Family Weekend Committee co-chair Mary Perkins is excited for a fun weekend that has something for everyone. “The committee has put together another packed schedule. We have events that have become traditions like the Blue and Gold Dinner, Alfred’s Got Talent, and the Homecoming barbecue mixed with newer events like roller skating and a Brianna Blankenship performance. We are looking forward to welcoming alumni, friends, and families back to campus.”

Homecoming activities will begin on Thursday with the annual Blue & Gold Dinner* (4:30 – 7:30 p.m.) in the Terrace. At 5 p.m., students can head to the Multipurpose Courts for a roller-skating event. At 8 p.m., Remember the Titans will be shown in the Pioneer Lounge while Thursday Night Football featuring Kansas City hosting Denver will be shown in the MacKenzie Commons.

Alfred State will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the MacKenzie Complex and the Hinkle Bell Tower during Friday afternoon activities. All are welcome to see the updates to MacKenzie or visit the historic bell tower in the center of campus. The celebration will take place from 3 – 5 p.m. in MacKenzie Commons.

Foodie Friday* returns and begins at 5 p.m. in the parking lots outside the stadium and will include food, music, and a bonfire. The ASC cheerleading team will be hosting a pep rally before Fireworks fill the air at approximately 7:45 p.m.

Students and student groups will take the stage at 8:30 p.m. looking to claim the Alfred’s Got Talent crown. The annual crowd-pleasing event will take place in the Cappadonia Auditorium.

The wrestling team will host an open practice at Pioneer Stadium on Saturday starting at 9 a.m. Tailgating lots around Pioneer Stadium open at 9 a.m. and will feature a Chili Cook-off (10 a.m.), a car show (10 a.m. – sign up to be part of the car show), and a performance by the Alfred State Rock Band (10:45 a.m.).

The football team kicks off vs. Anna Maria at Noon. Fans can also enjoy the End Zone Party for fans over 21. Visitors can sign up for a VIP Experience which includes special parking, dedicated seating, a drink at the End Zone Party, and a ticket to the Homecoming barbecue.

A postgame barbecue* catered by ACES begins at 2 p.m. outside the stadium and runs until 5 p.m.

Local country music artist Briana Blankenship, who appeared on American Idol, will perform in the tailgate area at 4 p.m. Listen to a sample of her music.

The women’s soccer team takes the Pioneer Stadium turf at 4 p.m. while the men follow at 6 p.m. Both teams will battle La Roche.

Eric Jones, winner of Outrageous Pumpkins Season 3, will be in the Orvis Lobby between 7:30 – 9:30 p.m. doing caricatures. He will also have a carved pumpkin on display at Pioneer Stadium throughout the weekend.

Ready to relax, check out the showing of Transformers at 8 p.m. in the Cappadonia Auditorium or head to the Orvis Gymnasium to see students battle in Fierce Flag Football starting at 8:30 p.m.

Weekend activities close out on Sunday with a family brunch* at the Central Dining Hall from 10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. *Meal Swipes/Card/Cash Accepted
