Coming off a tough 2-1 loss to York-Pavilion earlier in the week, the Red Raiders traveled to Olean for their annual kickoff tournament.  Tourney play began on Thursday as the Raiders took on Jamestown.  Senior Jack Emo netted three goals in the 5-0 shutout in just 40 minutes of play.  Three minutes into the second half, the game was stopped due to lightening but not before Eric Ross and Wyatt Evingham scored for Hornell.

The Red Raiders met Portville in the championship game Saturday afternoon.  The rain held off, and the Raiders sailed to a 6-2 victory to earn the title of tournament champions.  Jack Emo scored 5 of the team’s six goals in the game with three of the goals coming off stellar assists from Wyatt Evingham.  Evingham and Emo were in a groove that proved to be unstoppable.  Hornell’s sixth goal was scored on a header by Gennaro Picco off a perfectly placed corner kick by PJ Picco.

“We had a great tournament,” said head coach, Jim Tobin.  “The entire team contributed nicely.  Jack Emo was the tournament Most Valuable Player scoring 5 goals in the championship game.  Gennaro Picco was picked as the Defensive Player of the tournament while Wyatt Evingham took home the Offensive Player of the tournament.”

The Raiders are at home for a stretch this week beginning Monday as they host the Addison Knights.  Hornell will host the Haverling Rams on Wednesday and the Avon Braves on Saturday.

All games are slated for a 6:30pm start.
