There was excitement for jobs in Wellsville in 2021 with the Sunrise Wind Energy project at Ljungström in Wellsville being announced, and $1.4 million for training.

Today, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer was in Wellsville as he received word Ljungström is making more hires the next few months.

Schumer said he is launching a new push to secure millions in federal funding to help other manufacturers access opportunities in the clean energy economy, some of which can support Ljungström’s continued growth, as well as bolster domestic supply chains, and create good-paying jobs in rural communities.

Officials from Schumer’s office said “after delivering a $1.5 million workforce development grant in 2021 to help power the company’s transition from coal to clean energy. Schumer met with company executives to see firsthand how the federal investment he helped secure is supporting Ljungström’s pivot to the renewable energy industry and discuss new federal incentives, made possible by the Inflation Reduction Act, that could help fuel the company’s continued growth, with the company projecting to hire dozens of new workers in the next year.”

During the tour, Schumer was joined by Matt Ferris, Managing Director of Ljungström’s Wellsville Division, Derek Haynes, Director of Manufacturing for Ljungström, Brooke Harris, Chairman of the Allegany County Legislature, Tim Boyde, Deputy Administrator and Interim Economic Development Director for Allegany County, and Ben Rand, President of Insyte Consulting, among other company representatives, economic development professionals, and local leaders.

The Sun will have more on his visit later today.
