Share:

From Town of Alfred Supervisor Daniel Acton,

Alfred University and their engineers Clark, Patterson, Lee (CPL) attended for the purpose of applying for a permit for the playing fields on the top of Jericho Hill, referred to as Saxon Fields. They submitted numerous engineering plans detailing the project which are available to see at the town website. A lengthy discussion ensued that covered such issues as parking, times of use, seasons of use, lighting, sound, and the impact of all of these on local residents. They were asked to return to the board with an updated traffic study, visuals as to what local residents would see and appropriate mitigation of same. A sound study and with appropriate mitigation was also requested. When the application is deemed complete there will be a public hearing on the project.

The board next reviewed a proposed law for personal wireless facilities. This would allow the town to exercise the authority it has regarding locations for such facilities. The board agreed to review and discuss this at length at the September meeting.

The board expressed its concern about recent battery fires in New York State and the potential for this at the proposed solar project on McAndrews Road. We have asked experts from Northland Power-the developer, and our consulting engineers LaBella to attend the September meeting for the purpose of discussing the risks and benefits of battery storage.
