Western New York sports update: Sabres and Bills news

Buffalo Sabres defenseman Owen Power has been named to the NHL All-Rookie team. Power also finished third in votes for the Calder Trophy, which is awarded to the league’s most outstanding rookie. The Michigan product finished the season with 4 goals and 31 assists.

The Sabres have re-signed winger and team captain Kyle Okposo to a 1-year $2.5 million contract. The team also re-signed center Zemgus Girgensons to a 1-year $2.5 million deal.

The Buffalo Bills have extended general manager Brandon Beane and head coach Sean McDermott through the 2027 season. Pro Football Focus has ranked the Bills’ corp of linebackers the 10th best in the NFL. The ranking is mostly due to the presence of Matt Milano, but also due to talented rookie Dorian Williams.
