A power line went down around 7 p.m. on the sharp bend on State Route 19 between Wellsville and Scio.
The fire caused internet and cable to go down for residents on the Wellsville side of the lines, but there was no word if it affected power on the Scio side.
Power did go down as electric company officials showed up around 9 p.m. to make repairs and get the fire out.
A New York State Park Ranger was the first on the scene and may have called 911. The Scio Fire Department was toned around 7:08 p.m.
Scio Firefighters had to wait for the electric company to show up for the live wires and kept an eye on the lines that were on the grass and sparking with shooting flames. The firefighters kept the road clear for traffic to pass until the electric department arrived.
Firefighters kept their distance from the lines, but the lines did not spark enough to warrant action.
