NY State Police mourn the loss of K9 Lock who died unexpectedly on May 4

From the New York State Police,

It is with deep regret and sadness that the New York State Police at Troop “C” announces the unexpected death of K9 Lock.

K9 Lock passed away from an illness on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at the age of nine and a half years old. K9 Lock was assigned to Trooper Jamie M. Gockel and was his faithful partner working together out of SP Oneonta, SP Sidney, SP Kingston and SP Catskill.

Saturday, Troopers saluted K9 Lock outside a local veterinary clinic and showed their love and support for Trooper Gockel during this difficult time.

K9 Lock was trained in explosives detection, tracking and handler protection.

K9 Lock was named after Sergeant John H. Lockhart who died on March 23, 1937 after succumbing to a head injury as a result of a fall during a burglary call at a drugstore.
