L’Italia hosts Immaculate Conception School: See the GALLERY

By Sandy Rigas

It was a school lunch on a Tuesday but not at school. Immaculate Conception students Pre-K 3 through 6th grade, and faculty took a walk downtown to enjoy lunch out at a restaurant instead of the school cafeteria.

Filling up the main dining room at L’italia, they were able to enjoy a variety of the restaurant’s signature pizzas, along with fresh fruit salad and brownies for dessert. “I feel so sophisticated,” said a third grader about the dining downtown at lunchtime experience.

A bonus was seeing Yum Sanders, with apron and smile, a familiar face from the ICS kitchen and cafeteria, but working at L’Italia with daughter Jasmine Sanders and Casey Maglier, co-owners of the Main Street restaurant.

The outing was an alternative to a February 2 field trip which was canceled due to inclement weather resulting in a bi-county Snow Day. The school had intended to attend a play at St. Bonaventure University in Allegany and lunch afterwards at Sprague’s Maple Farm in Portville. However, the local field trip was certainly not viewed as “second best” to the students judging by the smiles and excitement, and the requests for second helpings!
