A ceramic workshop at the Wellsville Creative Arts Center!

On April 8, the Wellsville Creative Arts Center will be hosting a ceramic workshop called Folds & Molds presented by esteemed artist, Hannah Thompsett. Focusing on folding paper to make geometric molds for slip casting, Thompsett will be offering insight into her practice as an artist. Her paper folding methods are very intricate. Patterns begin as flat line drawings, which are creased and bent into three dimensions. As she folds, the tension from a singular plane of paper is broken up and transferred into volume. Thompsett will walk through examples of this folding process and show how these paper models are made into ceramic objects during her workshop.

Running from 2:00-5:00, those interested in attending Folds & Molds can RSVP and register online through our website – WellsvilleCreativeArtsCenter.com! Tickets are $65 to attend.

Currently working as a Ceramic Art Technician at Alfred University, ceramic students are directly impacted by Thompsett’s knowledge and expertise. Her own home studio is located in Scio, NY, and as a new member of the Allegany Artisans in 2022, she opened her space up to the public during the famous fall tour. She achieved her BFA from the SUNY New Paltz in 2011 and her MFA from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University in 2016. Since then, she has been displaying her work through a plethora of national exhibitions and galleries.

While her ceramic forms are distinguished and emphasize crisp lines, Thompsett finishes works with smooth rich glazes that highlight the tight folds – pooling and hugging the edge of each crease. Ranging from smaller cups to taller flower vases, there is much functional diversity pertaining to her ceramic vessels. Pieces of hers are available for purchase through The Little Gem Artisan Store affiliated with the Wellsville Creative Arts Center.

Register to learn more about Thompsett’s practice – paper folding, mold making, and more – at www.wellsville-creative-arts-center.com! RSVPing and online registration is encouraged for attendance of Folds & Molds. For more information regarding this event, please email us at wcac.studio.manager@gmail.com .

We welcome you to visit us for lunch and creative classes Tuesdays – Saturdays 10:00-2:00.
