More money for MTS, honoring John Fleischman, approving Peter Degnan

County leaders have several key issues up for discussion and vote today in Belmont.

Perhaps the most important, and the most debated, will be to provide Medical Transport Services Inc(MTS) of Scio with another lump sum of operating cash. Allegany County will loan the struggling EMS transport service $150,000 using federal American Rescue Plan funds. The county has agreed to provide up to $600,000 to keep the operation solvent and emergency medical services in the county uninterrupted.

The theme of emergency medical services continues with big honors for a pillar of the Allegany County first responder community. John Fleischman of Wellsville has been a driving force behind the Wellsville Volunteer Ambulance Department, Wellsville Rescue Squad, the Wellsville Fire Department, and several other emergency departments for almost fifty years.

The newly formed county department, The Office of the Conflict Defender, will take another major step forward today as Belmont attorney and Assistant District Attorney Peter Degnan is slated to be approved to head that office. Read more about the OCD in our recent reporting:
