Our mom, Lorraine Hyland Joyce, 92, passed peacefully from this life at her home in Andover on Saturday (December 24, 2022).

She was born in Andover in 1930 to Earl and Louise (McCormick) Hyland. Mom grew up on her family farm on Quigg Hollow Road in Andover. She had wonderful memories of her parents and siblings, as well as her extended Hyland/McCormick family of grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was a 1948 graduate of Greenwood Central School.

On November 26, 1949, Mom married our dad, Charles H. (Chuck) Joyce, and officially joined the Joyce clan. Mom and Dad had a great life. They supported each other in raising a family and building a successful business (Otis Eastern Service, Inc.). They were generous supporters of local organizations. Mom and Dad traveled the world together and in later years spent winters in Fort Myers, Florida, where they made many dear friends.

A woman of great faith, Mom was a life-long member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Andover as well as a member of St. John XXIII Catholic Church in Fort Myers. She was a link to past generations for so many of our family and friends.

Mom was an avid golfer and Bridge player and enjoyed seeing her friends at the golf course and at her weekly Bridge groups. For several years, she was a licensed real estate agent and was proud to sell many people their first homes. She loved spending time with family, going out for dinner, a good laugh, and a good martini. Mom was very fortunate to be quite active up until the last few weeks of her life.

She is survived by four children; Charles P. Joyce of Wellsville, Richard (Tina Iantorno) Joyce of Andover, Cheryl (Michael) Jackson of Wellsville, Teresa Joyce of Atlanta, Ga., and a daughter-in-law, Sherry Walton; six grandchildren, Matthew Jackson, Molly (Burt) Turner, Melanie Jackson (A.J. Young), Casey (Heather) Joyce, Anna (Dave) Drury and Cory Joyce; nine great-grandchildren, Kylen Jackson, Maeve Turner, Josey Turner, Cal Turner, Wes Urbano, Will Young, Jane Drury, Coco Drury, Amelia Joyce and many nieces and nephews on the Hyland and Joyce sides of the family.

In addition to our Dad, Mom was predeceased by her parents, Earl and Louise (McCormick) Hyland; infant son John; siblings Josephine Butler, James Hyland, Paul (Carol) Hyland, Suzanne Slocum, and Corinne (Carl) Atwell; in-laws James V. (Helma) Joyce, Joan (Merle) Dibble, W. Donald Joyce, Mary Ann (Abe) Davis, Sandra (Charles) Howland, and Marianne Joyce.

Our family would like to thank our wonderful team of caregivers, including our cousin Tom Davis, who helped to make Mom’s last years both comfortable and fun.

Friends may call at the family home, 4 East Avenue in Andover on Monday, January 2, from 2-8pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Blessed Sacrament Church, 24 Elm Street in Andover on Tuesday, January 3 at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Jim Hartwell as celebrant. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Andover. Online condolences may be offered at www.baker-swan.com.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Andover Volunteer Ambulance Corp., Inc. 8 Chestnut Street, Andover NY 14806, the Andover Fire Department, 60 Main Street, Andover NY 14806 or the Hart Comfort House, 141 East State Street, Wellsville, NY 14895.
