UPDATING ALL DAY: Closings as freezing rain turns to ice on the roads, up to two inches of snow expected today

UPDATE: WELLSVILLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CANCELLED TODAY

School busses were delayed this morning because of the freezing rain and quick build up of ice that started on the roads around 7:30 a.m.

Local Closures

  • Bolivar-Richburg Central School closed and Wellsville Elementary School closed. Students ARE in class in the Wellsville Middle School and High School.
  • However, all after-school activities, including sports, has been canceled in Wellsville. The YMCA after school program has also been canceled for the Middle School students.
  • Alma Town Court scheduled for 5:30 tonight December 15, 2022 is cancelled due to weather. The  next court date is January 19th.
  • The Scio Christmas concert is canceled and will take place Tuesday at 6 p.m.

The National Weather Service has provided us with this forecast for Allegany County for today and the weekend into next week:

Today expect freezing rain and sleet in the morning, then snow, freezing rain and sleet early this afternoon. Snow late. Snow and sleet accumulation 1 to 2 inches. Ice accumulation of up to one quarter of an inch. Windy with highs in the mid 30s. Southeast winds 15 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. Chance of precipitation 100 percent.

Tonight Snow. Additional accumulation 1 to 2 inches. Near steady temperatures in the lower 30s. Southeast winds 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph in the evening, diminishing to 5 to 10 mph. Chance of snow 90 percent.

Friday Cloudy. Snow in the morning, then a chance of snow in the afternoon. Additional accumulation an inch or less. Near steady temperatures in the lower 30s. Light winds. Chance of snow 80 percent.

Friday Night Mostly cloudy with a 40 percent chance of snow showers. Lows in the mid 20s. Light winds.

Saturday Mostly cloudy. A chance of snow showers in the morning. Highs within a few degrees of 30. West winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of snow 40 percent.

Saturday Night Snow showers likely. Lows 15 to 20. Chance of snow 70 percent.

Sunday Lake effect snow showers likely. Highs in the upper 20s. Chance of snow 70 percent.

Sunday Night Lake effect snow showers likely. Lows in the lower 20s. Chance of snow 70 percent.

Monday Mostly cloudy with a 50 percent chance of snow showers. Highs in the upper 20s.

Monday Night Mostly cloudy with a 50 percent chance of snow showers. Lows around 20.

Tuesday Mostly cloudy with a 50 percent chance of snow showers. Highs in the upper 20s.

Tuesday Night Mostly cloudy with a 40 percent chance of snow showers. Lows 15 to 20.

Wednesday Mostly cloudy with a 30 percent chance of snow showers. Highs in the mid 20s.
