James Garfield Moore, Jr., 88, passed away on Wednesday (December 7, 2022) at FirstHealth Hospice and Palliative Care in West End, N.C. following a brief illness.
Mr. Moore was born on August 24, 1934 in Lawrence, Mass. to James G. and Catherine (Buker) Moore. He served in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1955, with a tour of duty in the Korean War.
James owned and operated Moore & Sons General Contractors in Detroit, Mich. where he was a master carpenter. He later owned Moore Farms in Andover where he raised registered Angus beef cattle.
Jim is survived by six children, James G. Moore, III of Branchport, Tammy Duff (Chris) of Shelby Township, Mich., Pamela Cox of Pinckney, Mich., Thomas Moore of Livonia, Mich., Sandra Moore (Mark Corwine) of Andover, and Shari Moore of Lafayett, Colo.; two step-sons, Shane Shampine and John Shampine; 15 grandchildren, Cyan Corwine (Steve Wrigley) of Alfred, Lyla Corwine of Corning, Isabella Corwine of Andover, Mikala Cox, Cierra Cox, Amanda Cox, Dawn Garza, Kala Pino, Ryan Pino and Natalie Pino, all of Mich.; Mariel Culp(Kevin) of N.C., Thomas Moore, Jr. (Kaliope) of Pinehurst, N.C., Jesse Moore (Nichole) of Ill., Kyle Moore (Beth) of Rochester, Ashley Mattia of Redford, Mich.; 23 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Kimberly Moore; a step-son, Mike Shampine; four siblings, Herold Moore, Earl Moore, Philip Buker and Jane Barlow (Robert); his wife, Marion Moore; and two grandsons, Emory Corwine and Noll Corwine.
Jim was passionate about combating the illegal drug culture that is sweeping much of America. He collaborated with law enforcement in efforts to dismantle the drug houses in his community. Jim was a member of The Republican Presidential Task Force under Ronald Reagan.
Jim possessed an unparalleled work ethic. His work and spirit of adventure took him to Central and South America and abroad to France and Belgium.
As a proud American and a Korean War veteran, Jim was a generous supporter of many military service organizations. He loved animals and donated to many wildlife causes. He also had a heart for people struggling with cancer which caused him to support many of the organizations that are fighting to eradicate the disease.
Visitation will be held on Saturday (December 17) from 12 to 2 p.m. at the Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Andover. The memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home immediately following the visitation with Rev. Calvin Densmore of the First Baptist Church of Andover officiating. Full military honors will be rendered by the combined Andover and Wellsville American Legion and the United States Air Force. Jim’s ashes will be laid to rest at the Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Romulus at a date to be determined. Online condolences may be offered at www.baker-swan.com.
