Regional Police reports, fatal hit and run in Horseheads

On November 11, 2022, at approximately 5:05 p.m., State Police responded to a report of a car vs pedestrian serious injury accident on State Route 14 in the town of Horseheads. When troopers arrived, they discovered an individual with serious injuries and life saving techniques were performed.  The adult male, later identified as, Jon Gearhart, age 44, was transported to Arnot Ogden Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased. Gearhart was driving on St-Rte 14 when he pulled over and attempted to remove a deer carcass from the roadway when he was struck by a vehicle, and the operator of that vehicle drove away from the scene. State Police closed St-Rte 14 for several hours and reopened the roadway at approximately 9:40 p.m. The investigation is continuing, and State Police are asking anyone with information to call the State Police in Canandaigua at 585-398-4100.

A traffic stop in the Town of Caneadea Saturday resulted in several felony counts filed against an Erie County man. State Police based in Amity say they arrested 49-year-old Robert Coad of Buffalo. He was charged with three felony counts – driving while intoxicated, having a blood alcohol content greater than .08% and first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation. He was also charged with a lesser count of circumventing an ignition interlock device. Court action is pending.

Olean-based state police say they arrested a female, 42, of Bolivar stemming from an incident in the Town of Allegany. She was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance and one count of petit larceny. The accused was issued a court appearance ticket and released.
