Tax foreclosures, two PILOT programs, and a new “Office of Conflict Defender”

By Andrew Harris

With local elections largely settled, except a write-in race for Town Justice in Scio, county leadership is back to business today in Belmont.

County Treasurer Terri Ross will appear to notify the board that her office has filed a list of delinquent property taxes with Clerk of the Board.

On the agenda below notes that legislators will acknowledge the property tax deals for two major developments. The first is for Arvos/Ljungstrom LLC and a project planned for the Andover Road facility in Wellsville. The second, also a Wellsville project, is to provide a Real Property Tax Exemption agreement with Runnings Supply Inc. That agreement has been key to bringing the national retailer to the Riverwalk Plaza in Wellsville. Runnings store hopes to open in 2023 on the Bolivar Road in Wellsville.

Havey

Of interest also is District 4 Legislator Steven Havey’s introduction of a new local law which will create a new county office. The Office of Conflict Defender will require a public hearing and a full board vote to become law. What is a Conflict Defender you ask ? From the Livingston County NY equivalency:

“The Livingston County Conflict Defender’s Office endeavors to provide quality legal representation in defense of the indigent criminally accused and indigent petitioners and respondents in Family Court. This office ensures that their legal rights are upheld without regard to economic or social situations and without regard to the nature of the accusation against them. Livingston County Conflict Defenders have extensive experience in the representation of clients in criminal and family law matters.”
