Prosecuting Assistant District Attorney Ian M. Jones

Defendant’s Name:  Robert D. Saunders

Address:  Bolivar, New York       

Charges:      Violation of Probation
Resisting Arrest (A Misdemeanor)            

Court Appearance Date:  October 20, 2022

Proceedings:  Robert Saunders, of Bolivar, was sentenced on 2 separate cases and will be spending the next 18 months in the Allegany County Jail.  A warrant was previously issued for Saunders due to a probation violation.  When police located him, he picked up the additional Resisting Arrest charge.  The People, represented by 1st Assistant District Attorney, Ian M. Jones, argued for incarceration and Saunders was given 1 year for the probation violation and an additional 6 months for Resisting Arrest.

Defendant’s Name:  Donald D. Sherman, Jr.

Address:  Bolivar, New York       

Charges:      Rape 2nd Degree (class D felony) – 2 counts;
Sexual Misconduct (A Misdemeanor).            

Court Appearance Date:  October 20, 2022

Proceedings:  Donald Sherman was in Bolivar Village Court facing 3 sex offenses.  The People requested bail due to the nature of the alleged crimes, and bail was set at $10,000 cash.  Sherman is scheduled to return to Bolivar Village Court on December 16, 2022.

Defendant’s Name:  Justin A. Freeman

Address:  Hume, New York       

Charges:      Menacing a Police Officer (a class D felony); and
Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd (a class A misdemeanor)            

Court Appearance Date:  October 27, 2022

Proceedings:  Justin Freeman was convicted of 1 count of Attempted Menacing a Police Officer, a class E felony, following an incident which took place in the Town of Hume in which the defendant attempted to display a deadly weapon to a police officer who was in the course of his official duty.  Following his conviction, Freeman was sentenced to 5 years of felony probation.

Prosecuting Attorney:  Ian M. Jones, 1st Assistant District Attorney     

Defendant’s Name:  Stephen A. Osgood

Address:  Belmont, New York       

Charges:  Violation of Probation             

Court Appearance Date:  October 24, 2022

Proceedings:  Stephen A. Osgood has been sentenced to 1 year in the Allegany County Jail following a hearing in which he was found to have violated the terms of his probation.  1st Assistant District Attorney, Ian M. Jones, argued for the 1-year jail term that was ultimately handed down by the court, citing Osgood’s long history of non-compliance with probation.
