Another meeting has been set for November 2
By Andrew Harris
It isn’t an easy decision and county leaders made the choice today to delay a vote on increasing the pay for department heads, directors, and deputies.
The public hearing today which is required by state law was dominated by the speech made by Casey Jones of the Allegany Hope community group.
Jones, as usual, rebuked the board for holding “illegal” meetings and discussing the matter behind closed doors instead of the required public session. County officials have consistently disagreed with this opinion by Jones. His speech noted several reasons why the resolution to increase the pay of many county employees was not appropriate.
Legislator John Ricci, was quick to call for a vote to “table” the resolution to give more time for discussion concerning the raises until the November 2 meeting. Legislator Hanchett was the second to extend the matter until next week.
