News from Pennsylvania State Police (PSP)

—On August 11th, Troopers were dispatched to a home on North Brookland Road in Ulysses for a reported deception and theft. The victims were a 79-year-old man from Genesee, PA and a 51-year-old woman from Coudersport. Trooper Eby said the victims sent $31,235 in prepaid gift cards to two individuals who claimed to work for Publisher’s Clearing House. Of course, it was a scam. Police say the incident remains under investigation.

—Troopers investigated a criminal mischief complaint on BLK S Mitchell Road in West Branch Township. The victim reported ATV’s were driving through a field containing wheat, causing crop damage to the tune of $500. The police investigation continues.

—PSP investigated a motorcycle crash on State Route 44 in Hebron Township. The operator, who sustained injuries, was identified as Lisa M. See, 45, of Hinsdale, NY. Troopers said she lost control while rounding a curve and was wearing a helmet. She was transported to UPMC Cole for treatment.

News from New York State Police

—After investigating a domestic dispute in Hinsdale, State Police arrested Lee E. Smith, 49, of Cuba. Smith was charged with two counts of criminal contempt. A court appearance is pending. A few days later, Smith was arrested again. This time, charged with felony DWI, felony having a blood alcohol content above .08% and criminal contempt, again.  Smith was released on his own recognizance.

—Troopers said there were no injuries reported when two vehicles collided at the intersection of State Route 98 and Genesee Road in Arcade. The drivers were listed as Rockne A. Searle, 41, of Cuba and Zachary Brainard, 22, of Lancaster.
