Five digit reward for the arrest of those responsible for June 14 crime

By Andrew Harris

Very few criminal acts in Wellsville have drawn the outrage of citizens like the recent desecration and theft of 13 veteran gravesites in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. The village was already extremely irritated by prior theft and disrespect of the Shane Colligan Memorial Park at the intersection of Rt. 19S and Rt. 417.

When local newsman Michael T. Baldwin was going on his usual stroll through the graveyard, he discovered the crime and immediately reported to the authorities and the community. That discovery by Baldwin put the story on regional news channels and sparked an effort spearheaded by the American Legion to find justice. Today that effort has posted a reward of $1000 per gravesite, $13,000 total pledged by local civic groups, families, and individuals.
