Fire in Wellsville destroys home on Pleasant Street in the village (photo gallery, videos)

A fire between noon and 1 p.m. completely destroyed the Fanton family home on 37 Pleasant Street in the village.

Fire officials said the family was not home at the time of the fire and a cause it not known. Firefighters rushed into the home to check for residents and continued clearing debris and fighting the fire despite the fire raging in the roof above them.

Firefighters from Wellsville, Scio, Allentown, Alma, Willing and other department were on the scene along with the Wellsville Ambulance, EMT’s, rescie squad, police department, the New York State Police, fire investigators, electric and gas officials and village of Wellsville employees.

The Fanton family arrived and could only watch in horror at the damage. Many family and friends came to offer condolences and during a live video on the Wellsville Sun (https://fb.watch/dzklGlHykn/), residents were posting well-wishes and offering to help the family.
