Michael T. Baldwin Reports

The Wellsville Central School will hold a vote on the 2022-2023 budget on Tuesday May 17th. Voting will take place at the Secondary School on West State Street from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m.

The budget proposes to spend roughly $33.4 million and includes a 0% tax levy increase. The school board and administration has proposed a new sustainable means to keep the facilities current. As part of the yearly budget, administrators included a new cycle of annual construction improvements each year. This construction work would be funded through annual state aid payments.

The first years’ work would be to refurbish the Elementary gymnasium, including new bleachers, wall padding, and basketball nets. Officials said this new yearly cycle would allow capital improvements to be funded in a rolling cycle of annual aid provided by the state.

Two candidates for the school board are running unopposed. They are Steve Pettenati and Rex Olson.
