Medical helicopter pilot Jim Sauer died in the crash
The tragic crash of a Mercy Flight helicopter today in Elba NY has shocked many Western New York first responders. Allegany County’s Scott Cicirello made this statement about the well known pilot who died during the training exercise:
“An incredibly sad day for the First Responder community. Pilot Jim Sauer was a long time NYSP pilot and had flown in Allegany County countless times. I had the pleasure of flying with him. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jim’s family and the other pilot’s family who lost his life today. We stand with you Mercy Flight during this difficult time.”
