Wellsville’s Crawford signs to swim at Division II Roberts Wesleyan

By CHRIS BROOKS, sports editor,

WELLSVILLE — Her journey to swimming greatness began in sixth grade when she became a manager for the Wellsville Lady Sea Lions. One year later, it was her turn to dive into the pool that many local legends have occupied for many seasons under the guidance of Sectional championship-winning head coach Steve Hand.

Now, Kaelyn Crawford’s journey in the waters will continue onward up north in Rochester.

This past week, alongside her coaches and her family, the Wellsville senior officially put her name on the dotted line to further her education and her athletic career, where she will join the Division II ranks at Roberts Wesleyan as a member of their swim team, beginning next school year.

Hand said that during her time under his guidance, she was proficient in every stroke during her career.

“She really excelled in the butterfly and breaststroke events,” he said. “She was one of our captains this year, and her years of knowledge in a sport that she really loves in, and around the pool will be missed dearly. It’s awesome to see lots of student-athletes continuing both their academic, and athletics well into the future. I am so glad that Kaelyn will be one of them.”

With her time as a member of the Lady Sea Lions now officially in the books this past Fall, Crawford finishes as both a Livingston County and a two-time Section V champion with the team, also earning LCAA All-Star honors along the way. Aside from competition with the Lady Sea Lions, she was also a member of the AquaJags Swimming Team, as well as an instructor and lifeguard.
