Larry D. “Pops” Brownell Sr., 72, Wellsville

Larry D. “Pops” Brownell Sr., 72, of 106 Road, passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 in his son’s home with his sons by his side. He was born February 23, 1950 in Wellsville the son of the late Hartrick Sr. and Virginia (Empson) Brownell.

Larry was a life-long resident of Wellsville, and was a 1968 graduate of Wellsville High School. He served honorably with the United State Army from 1972-1974. After his time with the armed forces, he was employed by several businesses such as, the Rochester button Factory of Wellsville, and National Fuel, from where he retired as a Station Operator. Outside of work he enjoyed bowling and pitching horseshoes, was an avid outdoorsman who reveled in, Fishing, and Hunting (especially Turkey and Archery). As he grew older, he liked casino trips, golfing, and adored his dog Rusty. He was a member of the American Legion Post #702 of Wellsville.

He is survived by: two sons, Larry Brownell Jr. of Wellsville, and Matthew (Kimberly Zimmerman) Brownell of Cuba; their mothers, Cheryl Jackson Howland, and Kathy Quant Brownell; a grandson, Ziek Brownell; a great-granddaughter, Jayden Brownell; two brothers, Hartrick “Butch” (Patty) Brownell II, and Mike (Sherree) Brownell; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Bud and Ginny, he was predeceased by a brother, Gary Brownell.

Friends are invited to call on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 from 11 AM to 1 PM at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home, 34 West State Street, Wellsville, NY. A memorial service will follow immediately at 1 PM with Reverend Gene Miller presiding. Burial will be in Yorks Corners Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
