The murder trial of Howard M. Burroughs, 43, has been delayed again involving the brutal beating death and torture of Nicholas Burdge of North Main Street in Wellsville in March 2020.
He is currently in the Allegany County Jail without bail. Seven others have already pleaded guilty to felony crimes and are either in prison or on probation.
Burdge was tied down in a chair, beaten badly and then his lifeless body was dumped in the Genesee River. Burroughs was scheduled for a murder trial this month, but that has been postponed again.
The defendant, again, fired his attorney and the District Attorney fired prosecutor Mike Finn for unrelated reasons. The top-tier prosecutors are now handling the case. Peter Pullano of East Rochester has been assigned the new counsel of Burroughs, but no new court dates have been set.
