The Wellsville girls’ basketball team had a hot 6-0 start before dropping two games in the tough Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament in Bath.
However, the Lady Lions pulled off a huge road victory in Olean this week with a 43-34 win, then defeated Letchworth tonight at home, 45-20.
Against Letchworth, it didn’t matter who was on the floor for Wellsville, there was ball movement and scoring and contributions from the entire team.
Marley Adams had a game-high 13 points with five assists, five rebounds and a steal for Wellsville (8-2) while Makenna Dunbar scored eight points and had seven rebounds, an assist and a steal while Emily Costello scored 8 points with four rebounds, three steals and two assists.
Jaelyn Knapp (six rebounds, steal) had six points, Sara Reitz (two rebounds, steal) and Emily Robbins (two rebounds, assist, steal) had four and Jaylynn Mess had two points, two rebounds, an assist and a steal and Natalie Adams had five rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Kaylee Coleman had a game-high 10 rebounds for Wellsville and had two assists and a steal to go with her two points.
For Letchworth, Phobe Conklin had 10 points and Morgan Bruce scored five.
Wellsville has a pair of 6 p.m., varsity only games this week. The Lady Lions are at Canisteo-Greenwood on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. game.
The Hornell game was moved from Friday to Saturday night. The game is in Wellsville at 6 p.m. on Saturday. The boys will still play Hornell on Friday night, also a varsity only game at 6 p.m.
