The Allegany County Sheriff’s Office has once again supported the Shop with a Cop Christmas Program in Allegany County, through their “Beards for Bucks” and “Dough for Does” Programs. For the past ten years the officers have contributed over $12,500.00 to the program. Male employees are allowed to grow beards during the fall hunting season for a $25.00 donation and the female employees who wish to participate are included in a 50-50 drawing. This year the Sheriff’s Office raised $1,750.00 through the programs.

After the closing of the local K-Mart store in Wellsville it was decided to establish a special “Shop with a Cop Fund” through the Allegany County Area Foundation, with the money earmarked to provide Christmas gifts to underprivileged children in Allegany County.   Sheriff Whitney stated “shop with a cop was a great program for our area; and even though we are no longer able to actually shop with the children, we still wanted to make sure as many of them received a Christmas gift as possible.”
