The Arc Allegany-Steuben’s John Hyland has been recognized by New York State Industries for the Disabled (NYSID) as an “outstanding performer” through the 2021 William B. Joslin awards program.

Hyland was hired in 2015 as a cleaner for The Arc Allegany-Steuben’s Henderson Smith State Office Building and New York State Department of Transportation facility contracts in Hornell, NY. These contracts provide meaningful employment and the power of a paycheck to people with disabilities.

According to Director of Business Operations Chris Koehler, “People with disabilities are the nation’s most vulnerable demographic. John’s inspirational story shows that with a strong, loving support system, remarkable tenacity, and an opportunity to succeed, even lives most daunting obstacles can be overcome. He is truly worthy of recognition as a 2021 William B. Joslin Outstanding Performer.”

This is the 18th year of the Joslin awards program. The Arc Allegany-Steuben celebrated Hyland with an award presentation and luncheon. In addition to his award, Hyland received a check for $500, and his story was published in the NYSID yearbook.
