From Cynthia Dutton, Cuba Garlic Festival Committee, 9/11/21

The annual Amateur Wine Competition winners will be announced on Sunday, September 19 in the Stinkin’ Rose Tent at the Cuba Garlic Festival.

The competition, under the auspices of Jim and Sandy Keough of Cuba,  has been renamed “The Carlos Wood Amateur Wine Competition.” Carlos Wood was an avid wine maker and participant for several years. Even though he lived in Ohio, he managed to send his wine each year to be judged.  When he passed away, his family became the largest sponsor and each fall they travel from Ohio to attend the festival and the announcement of the medals.  A second sponsor is Walkers Fruit Farm in Forrestville.

Keough says that each winemaker can submit up to three bottles. They will be judged on appearance, aroma/bouquet and taste.

The following awards will be announced at 3pm: Gold, Silver, and Bronze; Best of Show in various categories; Winemaker of the Year (awarded to the vintner who’s accumulated the most points from their three entries) and Grand Champion Wine (chosen from the top three wines of the competition).

Following the announcement, those in attendance will be able to taste the wines and enjoy cheese donated by the Cuba Cheese Shoppe.

Keough says there are still several  days left to enter, by dropping off your wine at the Cuba Chamber of Commerce at 5 West Main Street Monday-Friday, 9am-2pm. For more information contact Keough  at 716-397-0204, or via email at coolbet@aol.com.
