This burning question has been being asked within Allegany County ever since former Undersheriff Kevin Monroe decided to retire and move south. The decision is completely in the hands of Sheriff Rick Whitney, and he’s not showing his hand.
After numerous reports that a successor to Monroe had been chosen, reports of potential candidates touring the jail facility, and a few other rumors unfit to publish; we asked Whitney for a status update.
“Kevin retired and moved to North Carolina, No final decision has been made on his replacement, I have some very qualified candidates that applied. I will be making my decision this week and I will announce it at the Board of Legislators meeting on Monday, August 23rd.”
When pressed for the names of candidates under consideration, Sheriff Whitney pulled his cards further toward his chest and replied:
“I won’t be releasing the names, just the final choice. It’s basically my personal decision, even the Legislators won’t know the potential candidates.”
It seems we will all have to give the Sheriff his prerogative and wait until next week’s announcement….
