This unique looking member of the largest family of tree warblers, Dendroica fusca, is not easily spotted during the few months that the bird resides in our temperate forests treetops. They spend most of their time in the canopy but our favorite photo journalist was at the right place at the right time to snap this picture(and add Blackburnian to “the list”).
If you are out in the forest and would like to add the Blackburnian Warbler to your list, the pros recommend that you start looking by listening. This dainty yet sharp song is the key to locating this bird….. first find the song, then the singer!
