Donald Jay Thomas, 63, Friendship

Donald Jay Thomas, 63, passed away on Saturday (April 17, 2021) at Jones Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Thomas was born on Oct. 1, 1957 in Wellsville to Donald Junior and Grace Ellen (White) Thomas. On Dec. 20, 2017, at his home on Pleasant Street in Wellsville, he married Terry L. Claypool, who survives.

Donald worked several years for Clark’s Pools where he installed swimming pools. Previously he worked as a machinist at Friendship Foundry, a tree service company and a golf landscape enterprise, both in Florida. Most recently he worked for Woodlawn Cemetery in Wellsville as a mower and grounds keeper until his retirement in 2016.

In addition to his wife, Terry, Don is survived by six children, Donald J. (Tabatha) Thomas, Jr., Lucas (Courtney) Thomas and Trina (David Slawson) Thomas, all of Wellsville, Shelby (Kory) Lanni of Belmont, Derek Landcastle of Fillmore and Megan Thomas of Florida; six sisters, Clara Johnston and Sandra Johnson, both of Wellsville, Barbara (Jerry) Wilcox of Short Track, Patricia (Michael) Tuttle of Friendship, Arlene (Michael) Ervay of Hinsdale and Becky (Jeremy) Clark of Friendship, one brother, David Earl of Westfield, Pa.; two step-sons, Jeramy Johnson of Friendship and Jaymie Johnson of Jamestown; 17 grandchildren, Gage, Sage, Kaylee, Colton, Felicity, Cameron, Jayden, Ethan, Destiny, Olivia, Giana, Reece, Hunter, Aspen, Serenity, Juliene and Koryn; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a brother, John Thomas and a brother-in-law, Jim Johnson.

Don had many interests that occupied his spare time. He was an avid fisherman and he loved family picnics. Don enjoyed garage saleing where he looked for bargains to resell. He was a certified small engine repairman and enjoyed old cars. Don was a country and 70’s music buff and was known to start dancing at the drop of a hat.

There will be a time of visitation on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Wellsville/Scio followed by a time of sharing memories. Online condolences may be offered at www.baker-swan.com.
