These are common fundraisers in the Allegany County area, usually in the spring, many times paired with leek dinners. One of our editors here at the Wellsville Sun, Tompall Glaser, happens to be a turkey and he posed a reasonable question: Do you really shoot turkeys ?
So we asked club member and all around great gal Tammy McQueen Kokot, (who has been assisting with event publicity) the question point blank:
” No!! We do plenty of shooting but only at targets…. Any type of long gun, or a handgun for distance target practice. On a nice weather day, we may have 25-30 rounds of competition. Some will bring flintlocks, Steve Walker will usually bring his….. ” Tammy told us and Tompall let out a relieved gobble.
