From Producer Diane Willard

This weekend, Wellsville High School will be performing a hilarious play entitled Empowered: How One Girl Scout Nearly Destroyed the World’s Economy.

The 27 cast members present the story of a Girl Scout Troop in the midst of cookie sale season. To encourage the girls to sell, the Regional Director presents them with a challenge: the top seller in the troop will win a unicorn named Sparkles. Competition ensues, with 4 girls vying for the top spot. Mackenzie is the popular girl, Cheyenne is her sidekick, Kennedy is the out-of-control wild child, and Amaryllis is the quiet, studious one. When Amaryllis finds she’s in last place, she seeks the help of an unscrupulous financial businesswoman in order to up her game.

The play also includes characters such as Amaryllis’ socially awkward best friend, a hygiene-challenged boy who pursues her, a somewhat-spacey Troop Leader, and a sweet father who loves to sing while he cooks. The interplay between all of these people creates one comedic sequence after another. We watch as the four girls compete for the prize, and the competition brings out the best and the worst in them.

Director Matt Warren notes, “This wonderfully talented group of performers has met my challenge of portraying some wacky and wild characters.”

If you are looking for an evening of light-hearted entertainment, be part of the audiences on Oct 9 & 10 at 7pm in the Wellsville Secondary School Auditorium.  Tickets can be purchased at the door for $10 for General Admission and $5 for Students & Seniors. Come to the show for an evening of laughs.  Feel empowered by theatre!
