Hear Ye Hear Ye: The Declaration of Independence reading starts at noon with “Ben Franklin”!

In just a few days Wellsville will celebrate America’s 250th semi quincentennial with entertainment, demonstrations and historical readings on the library lawn from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday.
Meet and talk with Benjamin Franklin, who as part of the opening ceremony will read the Declaration of Independence followed by a reading of the names of the 56 patriots who risked their lives signing the document.
The Genesee Valley Chorus, the original Bicentennial Chorus, will perform a concert of patriotic tunes. They will be followed by Pastor Dan Kenyon preaching the historical sermon ‘Sinners in the hands of an Angry God.’
Among the many demonstrations of what life was like in the 13 colonies, Betsy Ross will be sewing the original 13 colony flag. There will be spinning, basketry, knife making and a display of colonial firearms. Learn how herbs were used for medicinal purposes and pick out your tussie mussie.
The Catharine Schuyler Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will celebrate our local patriots.
Courtesy of Maple Moon, a children’s tent will feature activities for kids of all ages including ink making and writing with quills, stories and more.
Learn about and sample foods that were commonly found on colonial dinner plates.
There will be free giveaways of flags and stickers and a raffle for a semi quincentennial gingerbread man.
A cannon and the Liberty Bell will be part of the show.
The event is free and open to the public and will take place rain or shine on the lawn of the library from noon to 4 p.m. Come join us in celebrating the 250th anniversary of these United States with a look back at life in 1776.
