Six former Wellsville Little Leaguers off to hot start at Cooperstown Dreams Park tournament

Six former Wellsville Little League players are playing for the Twin Tiers travel baseball squad in Cooperstown through August 5.

The park hosts around 15 tournaments a summer and each week, 104 teams play in one bracket. After one day, the local team is among the elite upper haf after a 16-14 win over the Southlake (Texas) Dragon Dreamers.

The other local players on the Twin Tiers team are Maddon Splain, KJ Hemphill, Aidan McCumiskey, Beckett Burns, Miles Feuchter and Emmett Wilcox. The team is coached by Matt Splain, Eric Hemphill and Pete McCumiskey.

In the win, James Rhodes had three hits including a 3-run home run and a RBI single. Wyatt Green started and had two strikeouts and Braidon Potter got the save, striking out two in the final inning without giving up a run.

Matthew Helveston hit a solo home run, Green had three hits while Maddon Splain had two and Miles Feuchter had two.

Twin Tiers will also face the Wyckoff Raiders (New Jersey), Peninsula Raiders (California), Wayzata Pirates (Minnesota), and Greenwich Travel (Connecticut).

The team won the War of the Shores Tournament in Angola from July 23 to July 26.
