How to sign up to become a “Pen Pal,” and dates for Story Time

The David A. Howe Public Library in Wellsville announces a new pen pal program as well as three separate story time series; story time in our local parks in August, story time at community helper locations in September, and story time in pajamas at the library in October.
Pen Pal Program starting in August:
Our pen pal program will begin on August 10th. This is a five-week long program in which children in grades 2 to 5 will have the opportunity to practice their storytelling, writing skills, and penmanship by writing letters to children who go to the Community Library of Shenango Valley in Sharon, PA. To participate, families must register in person at the David A. Howe Library’s children desk starting July 27th. Children and their caregivers are invited to three exciting story time series this late summer and fall, bringing books, songs, and early literacy fun beyond the library walls for the warmer days — and back again for cozy autumn evenings.
Park Story Time Series in August:
Enjoy the beauty of summer with the Park Story Time Series in August. Aimed at children 18 months old to 5 years old, families are invited to gather at local parks for stories, songs, movement activities, and simple crafts in a fun outdoor setting. Each program encourages families to get into nature while enjoying reading and learning.

Community Helpers Story Time Series in September:
In September, aimed at children 4 years old to 8 years old, the David A. Howe Library’s Community Helpers Story Time Series heads into the community with story times at the places that help keep our Wellsville neighborhoods safe and thriving. Families will have the opportunity to hear stories while learning about the important work that community helpers such as firefighters, police officers, and even airport workers do.
This special story time series gives children an engaging way to connect books with real-life experiences and become familiar with the people who serve the Wellsville community every day.

Thursday, 9/10 @ 4:00PM: Wellsville Fire Department – 40 S Main St, Wellsville
Thursday, 9/17 @ 4:00PM: Wellsville Police Department – 46 S Main St, Wellsville
Thursday, 9/24 @ 4:00PM: Wellsville Airport – 2600 Tarantine Blvd, Wellsville
Pajama Story Time Series in October:
As the evenings grow cooler, families are invited to wind down with the Pajama Story Time Series in October. Children 4 years old to 8 years old are encouraged to wear their favorite pajamas or comfy clothing and enjoy bedtime-themed stories, songs, and calming activities.
Pajama story time provides a cozy atmosphere that promotes family reading routines and helps children prepare for a restful night of sleep.
The location is the children’s room at the David A. Howe Library and the dates are as follows:

Monday, 10/19 @ 6:00PM
Monday, 10/26 @ 6:00PM
We’ll also have a Stuffie Sleepover on Monday, 10/12 rightafter our first pajama story time. Children are encouraged to bring their favorite toy or favorite stuffed animal to the library, say goodnight, and leave it behind for an overnight adventure. Families should aim to pick up their child’s favorite toy or stuffie within the week and will get a personalized letter and photos detailing what their companions did in the library all night.
