Summer reading program for kids is underway now!!!
From the Ashleigh Beblavy, Children’s Librarian
The David A. Howe Public Library in Wellsville is pleased to announce the addition of the Library Learning Tech Station, featuring new educational learning devices in the children’s section. Their goal is to provide their youngest visitors with opportunities to engage in digital interactive activities involving early literacy skills, social-emotional learning, and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) concepts.
The devices, called Playaway Launchpads, are specially designed for children ages 3 and older and feature pre-loaded, age-appropriate educational content to meet the educational and recreational needs of children in the community. The devices will be available for use within the library and exist as another tool to complement the library’s collection of books, programs, and hands-on toys and activities. The project was funded in part by the Foundation for Southern Tier Libraries.
“We’re really excited to introduce the Playaway Launchpads,” said Ashleigh Beblavy, the children’s librarian. “They’re a great way to keep children engaged during the summer and beyond. It’s also great to have additional technology resources that not all kids have at home.”
Library staff will be available to assist families in using the devices and answering any questions that library visitors may have. Parents and guardians are encouraged to come try out the new Library Learning Tech Station and sign up for the library’s summer reading program, which runs from Monday, June 29 to Friday, August 7.
