Wellsville Little League All-Stars advance in playoffs with an 11-4 win over Portville

The Wellsville Little League All-Stars advanced in the District 2 playoffs on Wednesday night with an 11-4 win over Portville at Hank Sinky Field.

The 12u team will face the winner of Springville and ECLV on Wednesday. Wellsville comes out of the Don Jordan East Bracket undefeated at 3-0.

Matthew Helveston had a big game for Wellsville, not just picking up the win on the mound but a huge game at the plate going 3-for-3 with three doubles and six RBI’s. On the mound, Helveston struck out three over two innings for the win.

Jace Herrnecker, who played stellar defense at several positions, came in to pitch in the last inning when Portville loaded the bases. Herrnecker struck out one and got a ground out to end the game. He scored a run and had a RBI.

Bently Crittenen had two hits, a doubles and drive in two runs while Braidon Potter had two runs, a hit and stolen base, Maddoc Johnson had a hit, scored twice and stole a base, Mason Russo had two hits and a RBI, Wyatt Scheible walked and scored and Sullivan Kehrer had a hit, stolen base and scored.

Also for Wellsville, Wyatt Green stole a base and scored, Luke Aftuck had an RBI single and Colsin Short reached twice, scored and stole a base.

Felix Grimes came in with Portville mounting a comeback early in the game and struck a batter out with the bases loaded, then struck out the side in the next inning. He finished with five strikeouts and didn’t allow a run while pitching across three innings. At the plate, Grimes reached twice, had a RBI double and scored a run.

For Portville, Cruz Taylor blasted a two-run home run over the left-center fence. Hawkslee Phillips, Chase Pavia and Ian Studley had hits while Jonah Washington had a RBI and Hunter Manroe scored.
