The Alfred Farmers Market opens this Sunday with the return of the Market Sprouts Festival, a celebration of families, friends and the vibrant Alfred community. The AFM sets up every Sunday, from June 7 until October 11, in the park at the bandstand, on the corner of Saxon and Main, from 11:00 until 2:00. As the largest makers and growers market in Allegany County, the AFM brings local farmers together with great artisans and crafters to create a unique shopping and entertainment destination.

This Sunday, families can enjoy the return of “Market Sprouts Bucks.” Each child attending the market can pick up a coupon good for a $1 purchase from participating vendors. Families just need to look for the signs on the vendor stalls welcoming our smallest shoppers. Then children can enjoy the Story Book Trail sponsored by the Alfred Box of Books Library and play with a wide assortment of wooden games sponsored by the Alfred 21st Century Group.

Buckwheat, an AFM favorite, will be performing at the bandstand. Eric “Buckwheat” Scutt is a local singer/songwriter originally from Shinglehouse, PA, who is releasing his most ambitious project: an album called “The Rivers Gone Dry Part 1.”

After shopping and enjoying the music, families can visit two food trucks for lunch. She Brews will be serving up great coffee, wraps, salads, and desserts. The Old Mill will bring an array of comfort foods such as fried pierogies, french fries, and other favorites.

A total of eighteen vendors are setting up on the green for Opening Day. They are:
