Wellsville’s healthcare leader continues to earn national accolades
From Jones Memorial,
Jones Memorial Hospital has achieved a 4-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the federal agency that provides health coverage to more than 160 million Americans though Medicare, Medicaid and the Health Insurance Marketplace. This marks the third straight year that the hospital has maintained a 4-star classification from CMS. The hospital first achieved this designation in 2024.
Jim Helms, President & CEO at Jones Memorial Hospital stated:

“Receiving a 4-star rating from CMS the first time was a huge honor. Maintaining that designation speaks volumes about the level of care our staff and associates are consistently providing to the community each and every day. We’re honored to serve our patients and community and humbled to receive this recognition – a recognition which belongs to every associate, volunteer and medical staff member who chooses to make a difference here at Jones. Whether at the bedside or behind the scenes, I’m grateful for their partnership.”
Some of the metrics contributing to the high marks for Jones included high marks in timely and effective care including in surgical settings and the Emergency Department. The hospital also received strong scores in maternal care, perinatal care, health equity, mortality rates, low 30-day readmission rates, and stroke care.
Sandra Watkins, MS RN, Chief Nursing Officer, emphasized, “Achieving and maintaining a 4-star CMS rating reflects the dedication and teamwork of every associate across Jones Memorial Hospital. Quality improvement is an ongoing journey, and we remain focused on advancing patient safety, enhancing outcomes, and delivering the highest level of care close to home for our community. While the CMS star rating measures performance across specific historical benchmarks, our teams continue to evaluate opportunities for growth and innovation to ensure we are meeting the evolving needs of our patients and families.”
Dr. Kevin McCormick, Chief Medical Officer at Jones Memorial expressed his pride in the medical staff by saying, “This achievement is a powerful affirmation of the dedication and clinical excellence of our physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, and entire medical team. Every day our staff go above and beyond to provide evidence-based, compassionate care with a singular focus: improving outcomes for every patient we serve.
Behind this rating are countless hours of collaboration, innovation, and a relentless commitment to quality and safety. It reflects our ongoing efforts to strengthen care coordination, reduce readmissions, and ensure our patients receive the right care at the right time — all close to home.
We are proud of this recognition, but even more proud of what it represents: healthier patients, stronger trust in our care, and a shared commitment to excellence at every level of our organization.”
Mr. Helms continued, “I look forward to the future of our hospital and am confident that we will continue to move forward together to continuously improve and expand our services, increase quality and safety and strive to be ‘ever better’ – together.”
