Hey Wellsville!! Did you know:

. Wellsville wasn’t named for its oil wells?

. Gabby Hayes wasn’t Wellsville’s only vaudeville star and thespian?

. Wellsville was once named Genesee?

. Indigenous people called Wellsville Pigeon Woods?

. A survivor of the Battle of the Little Big Horn lived in Wellsville?

These and many more facts can be answered by a visit to the Nathaniel Dike Museum located at 118 Dyke Street when it opens for the season on Wednesday May 6th.

Members of the Thelma Rogers Genealogical and Historical Society which runs the museum will open the doors for visitors to step in and discover the treasures the museum holds. It’s a free voyage of discovery.

The museum will open from 1 to 4 p.m. most every Wednesday until the end of October. According to Thelma Rogers Genealogical and Historical Society President Ann Comstock there will be light refreshments on opening day and volunteers at the museum will be there to point out its newest exhibits and historical items. You can find everything from a barber chair to items crafted 250 years ago by the hands of first settler Nathaniel Dike. There are also files full of genealogical information. Residents of the area are encouraged to contact and visit the Museum to work on their own family genealogies.

As for the questions at the beginning of this announcement, find out the answers for yourself when you visit the museum anytime from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday.
