Learn to be ready to help family or friends in crisis
From Ardent Solutions
Community members across Allegany County and beyond are invited to participate in an Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) on May 5–6, 2026, in Houghton, NY. The two‑day workshop is sponsored by Ardent Solutions in partnership with the Allegany County Suicide Prevention Coalition.
ASIST is an internationally recognized, evidence‑based training program designed to help participants recognize when someone may be at risk for suicide and respond effectively with life‑saving interventions. The training equips attendees with practical tools to engage individuals in crisis, create a safety plan, and connect them with appropriate supports and resources.
“This training strengthens our community’s ability to respond with confidence, compassion, and care,” said Jose Soto, the Allegany County Suicide Prevention Coalition facilitator. “By building suicide‑intervention skills across helping professionals, educators, community leaders, and residents, we are working together to prevent suicide and support hope and recovery.”
The interactive workshop is appropriate for a wide range of participants, including behavioral health providers, healthcare workers, first responders, educators, faith leaders, social service professionals, and community members 16 years and older who want to be prepared to help someone in distress. No prior suicide‑prevention training is required.
The ASIST training will take place over two full days and includes group discussions, hands‑on practice, and experienced facilitators who guide participants through real‑world scenarios. 15 CE credit hours are available for LMSW, LCSW, and LMHC licensees upon completion of course.
