When Teegan Sibble won states during the inaugural New York State Girls Wrestling state championships, the next step was to see if she could compete in college.
After all, she would be a true freshman at Division II East Stroudsburg University, and to get to nationals, you have to win against Division I wrestlers.
And some of the wrestlers might be five years older than her.
The Bolivar native with severe cystic fibrosis that has to be treated daily is no stranger to adversity.
Not only did she have a great regular season, winning several tournaments, she placed second in the NCAA regionals and earned a spot on the bracket for the 2026 NCAA Women’s Wrestling National Championships at 110 pounds.
Was she nervous Friday morning on ESPN?
Nope.
Teegan pinned Alexandra Tchekounova (21-14) of Quincy in EIGHT seconds.
No. 7 seed Sibble is now 28-5
Next up is the No. 2 nationally seeded Sage Mortimer (17-1) of Grand Valley State in the quarterfinals. The No. 1 seed is Audrey Jimenez (18-0) of Lehigh.
The match between Sibble and Mortimer is at 5 p.m. on ESPN+ platforms.

From East Stroudsburg University on Sibble’s FSU Tournament win this season:
Sibble went 4-0 in her bracket, winning three matches by fall, including the championship. She began by pinning Presbyterian’s Sloane Kruger in 2:22 and Katie Ramsay in 1:58, advancing to the finals off a 14-4 technical fall win over Combat School’s Timi Coles in 2:54. Going against Jaclyn Bouzakis from Wyoming Seminary, the top-ranked high school wrestler in the class, she pinned her in 1:44 for the crown.
