Happy New Year!
By Chuck Wiser, I write the words to share what my eyes see and my heart feels
I’m writing this Winter Wrambling the first morning of 2026. A couple of poetic thoughts prompted my writing or re-writing, of my poetic, hopefully not pathetic, poems. I will share those with you on this, the first Wrambling of 2026. So as to share one new poem, and one updated poem, I will keep the normal 3 page Wrambling to a little less.
I don’t want my Warped Wrambling to deflect away from the emotional, or sentimental value of the poems. As my standard heading or sign off message says: “I write the words to share what my eyes see and my heart feels”. Despite the brevity of that line, I believe, they are the most explanatory and heart-felt words to describe me and my writings.
I had to rely on my wife for the occasion of the snow accumulation shown in the picture herein, as my memories of that, other than shoveling, were not precise. She refreshed my memory and the picture shows her mother’s car, and our car, being shoveled out on Christmas morning in 1978. At this time the copy/paste from Google accounted for this statement; December 25, 1978, seeing Allegany County’s biggest 24-hour snowfall on record (30 inches). I’m not sure if that “record” still stands, but the winter before that was pretty significant too. I had to travel to Buffalo for a flight, on or about when, the snowfall and blizzard of 1977 was upon us. I did not have a lawn tractor/snowplow yet that year (nor the following year). When it was time for her mother to leave, having spent the night, my wife drove her mother home to Friendship in her own car, and I tagged along in my car to bring my wife home.
BTW, my use of the “my wife” term sounds pretty possessive I know, but, I’m not supposed to use her name in my writings.
Owner/Editor Andrew Harrris commented the other day that the number of my Wramblings now totals around 200 writings. As best as I can figure, not counting the rare non-Wrambling week, I have written just over 200 of my articles. At first, they were titled “Words From Wiser.” I’m not exactly sure of when I switched to the Wrambling’s title but I could figure it out. I won’t take the time to do it now both from lack of interest (yours), and lack of time (mine), as I need to get out and plow and shovel the additional 5” of snow that fell through the day and half of the night. The early snows were very small “snowflake” wise, but that type tends to be very dense and heavy. When I looked out the window at midnight the flakes had turned to fluffier, larger, “flakes” and they do tend to accumulate, depth wise, more quickly, but fortunately are lighter. Shoveling wise the first couple of inches of snowfall are dense and heavy and the last few are lighter and give the additional depth look.
I have mentioned before that the only thing I like about winter is the occasional opportunity to go outside, get some fresh air, and to do some work that is satisfying and for the most part, enjoyable.
Shoveling, as is mowing the yard, albeit tiring, is also enjoyable or refreshing in that you can see the progress of; Where you are, Where you’ve been, and When you are finished. How great that feeling of accomplishment, which is “self-satisfying,” makes you feel.
I have several topics noted for “post-Christmas” and the first Wrambling of the new year but since a picture is worth a thousand words I will keep this brief and share with you two poems. One of the poems was written a couple of days ago, and the other is from 2020. I find it more convenient to include these in my Wrambling as a “.jpg picture,” as the text style and coloring is part of my Poetic “License.” I leave you now with another Happy New Year 💕💕.
